Name and Noun by Stephanie Yue Duhem

  • "Agile and inventive, the poems in Stephanie Yue Duhem’s 'Name and Noun' course with a singular attentiveness to language and its charged interchange with the multiplicity of selves we inevitably are: self of individual subjectivity, self of family and culture, of historical forces opening and closing pathways to survival. Here, familiar encounters with memories, moods, recipes, and beloveds unfurl their strangeness with prismatic precision, at once playful, mournful, freighted, and free."

    - Lisa Olstein, author of 'Pain Studies' and 'Late Empire'

"Brimming with lyric intensity, linguistic playfulness, and vivid meditations on memory and the formation of the self, I adore the poems in Stephanie Yue Duhem’s 'Name and Noun'. How thrilling it is to hold this slim volume and know we’re only at the beginning of Duhem’s career. Make room on your poetry shelf for this substantial poet."

    - Carrie Fountain, author of 'The Life'
